LOCATING THEATRICAL IMAGES

Your Family History - - Snapshots -

This month’s Snapshots subject ties in with our cover feature – theatrical ancestors. If you have a performing person in your family tree, you might be lucky enough to find a photo or two of them, either performing, or posing for a publicity image. You can find these images in all sorts of places – from reproductions in newspapers, The National Archives (if a photographer wished to copyright his images, there may be a record within TNA’s COPY files, which include several theatrical images), theatre archives, or even on second-hand stalls or on online auction sites, the latter of which can be a treasure trove of acting-related images.
