TINNED FOOD

Your Family History - - Food, Glorious Food! -

Preserving food in tin-lined canisters was patented by British merchant Peter Durand in 1810. The method was used by Bryan Donkin at his factory in Bermondsey to produce canned goods for the British army from 1812. However, it did not become popular until 1866, when Britain started importing Australian tinned meat.
