Step-by-step: Using Trove
How to carry out a newspaper search on the Trove website
1The Trove newspaper database has over 21 million digitised images. To identify which newspapers have been included for a region, and the relevant year coverage, visit the About section at http://trove.nla.gov.au/newspaper/about.In this example I wish to find out about a relative in Brisbane, and so am searching the Queensland holdings.
2I knowthat Trove has coverage for the Brisbane Courier for the period when my relative David Bell lived in the city (it covers 1864-1933). From the Trove search screen at http://trove.nla.gov.au/newspaper,clickon ‘Adv’ beside the Search box. On the new Advanced screen, type in the name, date range and title of interest. Click Search.
3Select anarticle from the list returned. You will nowsee a scan of the original image, and a transcript on the left side of the screen. You canamend any errors in the transcript, and can download a copyof the scanned image, and print or share a copy.
