It is be­lieved that the first im­mi­grant to be pro­cessed at the El­lis Is­land sta­tion in 1892 was An­nie Moore, who had trav­elled from her home in County Cork, Ire­land, with her two brothers, aged seven and 11. She was given a $10 coin to mark her place in his­tory.
