I could not believe my eyes at your article on the Royal College of Preceptors in the September issue ( YFH 186, p84). I took the exams as a student in 1961, at a private school in Bedfordshire. In all my years, I have only come across one other person who had ever heard of, and taken, the exams. I presume we took them as a precursor to the GCE examinations. I have spoken of it to other friends in the teaching profession, who have also never heard of the College or its exams! I always thought it a strange title, and now, after nearly 60 years, I have an answer. I attach a copy of my certificate. SANDRA RICHARDSON, VIA EMAIL

We’re glad you enjoyed the feature, Sandra, and that it shed some light on who had been responsible for your exams!
