The native peoples of the Americas have a fascinating history, but their achievements have often been ignored by mainstream cultures. A new permanent installation in New York City wants to change that. The IMAGINATIONS Activity Center is part of the Smithsonian’s National Museum of the American Indian and is intended for youth and families. Providing information in English and Spanish, it opened in May of 2018, following a $9 million renovation. The museum concentrates on native innovations as well as on agricultural, engineering and medical developments, such as the Aztecs’ herbal medicine.
