Not such a trip!
You don’t have to take drugs to feel high — you just have to think you’re taking them! In a study by Mcgill University in Montreal, people experienced psychedelic effects after taking a placebo they believed was a psychedelic drug. The 33 participants in the study spent four hours in a room that resembled a psychedelic party, with paintings, lights and a DJ playing music. Later, 61 per cent of them said they had felt at least some psychedelic effects from the placebo. The study may be helpful to doctors who use psychedelic drugs to treat patients suffering from depression and anxiety, as it suggests that small doses can be as effective as large ones.
