Gym­nasts to rep­re­sent Azer­bai­jan at Baku 2017 iden­ti­fied

Baku vig­or­ously pre­pares to host 20 sports com­pe­ti­tions at the fourth Is­lamic Sol­i­dar­ity Games to be held on May 12 – 22.

The Games will bring to­gether ath­letes from ev­ery one of the ISSF’s 57 mem­ber na­tions, who are based across four con­ti­nents. Ath­letes will com­pete in 20 sports, across 270 medal events, in­clud­ing foot­ball, ath­let­ics, wrestling and box­ing.

Pro­gram of the Games for the first time in­cludes gym­nas­tics which is very im­por­tant for both the world and the Mus­lim coun­tries. Ath­letes from 14 coun­tries will com­pete in the gym­nas­tics events.

Ath­letes will com­pete in three types of gym­nas­tics - rhyth­mic gym­nas­tics, women's and men's artis­tic gym­nas­tics, the Baku 2017 press ser­vice re­ported with ref­er­ence to Azer­bai­jan Gym­nas­tics Fed­er­a­tion.

The first gym­nas­tics event will be held at Na­tional Gym­nas­tics Arena on May 12 - the open­ing day of the Games - and will last for 4 days.

The clas­si­fi­ca­tion phase on rhyth­mic gym­nas­tics will take place on May 12-13 and fi­nals will be held on May 14.

The clas­si­fi­ca­tion phase on artis­tic gym­nas­tics will take place on May 13-14 and fi­nals will be held on May 15.

Azer­bai­jan’s hopes in rhyth­mic gym­nas­tics will be pinned on Ma­rina Du­runda, Zhala Piriyeva, Zohra Agamirova, in women artis­tic gym­nas­tics - Yuliya In­shina, Ma­rina Nekrasova, Maria Smirnova, Eka­te­rina Tishkova and men artis­tic gym­nas­tics - Mu­rad Agharza­yev, Timur Bayra­mov and Bense Talas.

The AGF, which was founded in 1956, has ex­pe­ri­enced re­vival since 2002 and the re­newed fed­er­a­tion lifted this pop­u­lar sport to a new level. Thanks to a high-level and dy­namic ac­tiv­ity of the Fed­er­a­tion, Azer­bai­jani gym­nas­tics has been able to break into the world sport­ing arena.
