Ap­ple re­cently added sev­eral emoji of Arab flags, sym­bols and skin un­der­tones, ideal for con­ver­sa­tions in Mid­dle Eastern coun­tries. While their nu­ance, flex­i­bil­ity and con­ve­nience all ap­peal, a crop of mul­tira­cial emoji up­dates are emerg­ing that cap­ture the unique Arab cul­ture and al­low for more em­pathic di­a­logues. Belly Dancer and Ulu­lat­ing Cleopa­tra emo­jis, have re­placed the in­fa­mous salsa dancer for ju­bi­la­tions and Wink­ing Cleo and King Tut kisses re­place the lit­tle yel­low smi­ley face kiss emoji for flir­ta­tious ex­changes. Egypt de­vel­oped an emoji key­board for com­monly used Egyp­tian slang, as have KSA with a key­board of women in var­i­ous forms of veil and an­other for re­li­gious icons, among many oth­ers.
