On August 2, Instagram unveiled Instagram Stories, a new feature that allows users to post Snapchat-like stories that do not appear permanently on their profile but are rather presented in the form of a slideshow that only lasts for 24 hours. Stories posted by your friends would then show up at the top of your feed and you can tap on their profile picture in order to view their story. “With Instagram Stories, you don’t have to worry about overposting. Instead, you can share as much as you want throughout the day - with as much creativity as you want. You can bring your story to life in new ways with text and drawing tools,” the official Instagram blog reads. The new feature eventually took the Internet by storm, unleashing a heated Instagram vs. Snapchat debate among social media users and making global headlines for days after its announcement.
