Blue Monday - In the Red
New Order’s club classic came in the shape of a giant floppy disk (remember those?) with three separate die-cuts. It reflects the world of machines, used to compose the song. Legend goes that the sleeve costed so much to produce that the band actually lost money on each copy sold. Panic grew as the 12” kept rising in the charts. New Order frontman Bernard Summer recently confirmed the urban myth. However, on later pressings, the pricy die-cuts were replaced by a simple silkscreen. A Blue Monday indeed.
