13 years af­ter its es­tab­lish­ment, Face­book hits the 2 bil­lion user mark. The so­cial media giant has dou­bled its user base in less than five years —The one bil­lion has been reached in Oc­to­ber 2012.

“We’re mak­ing progress con­nect­ing the world, and now let’s bring the world closer to­gether,” Chief Ex­ec­u­tive Mark Zucker­berg said in a short post an­nounc­ing the mile­stone on his Face­book page.

Face­book had 1.94 bil­lion ac­tive monthly users as of last May, ac­cord­ing to com­pany sta­tis­tics. That to­tal rep­re­sented a year-over-year in­crease of 17%. Daily ac­tive users rose too: There were 1.28 bil­lion on av­er­age in March, up 18% from a year ear­lier.

Com­peti­tor Twit­ter Inc. had 328 mil­lion ac­tive monthly users as of April, while the Snap Inc.-owned app “Snapchat” had 166 mil­lion daily users, ac­cord­ing to Reuters.
