Rose Choueiri awarded the medal of the Or­der of St. Gregory the Great

Ma­ronite Pa­tri­arch, Car­di­nal Béchara Raï, pre­sented to Rose Choueiri, a mem­ber of the Ma­ronite Foun­da­tion in the world, the metal of the Lady of the Or­der of Gregory the Great, which Pope Fran­cis awarded her in recog­ni­tion of all her con­tri­bu­tions “for the good of the Church and of so­ci­ety”.

In a speech given dur­ing a cer­e­mony that took place at the pa­tri­ar­chal head­quar­ters in Bk­erké, Choueiri stressed that “al­though this medal is in my name, it is de­serv­ing of ev­ery Le­banese woman who works in fa­vor of her so­ci­ety and her coun­try.” Re­call­ing that she be­gan her jour­ney with her de­ceased hus­band, An­toine Choueiri, she noted that “this medal is an act of faith, charity and gift”.

For his part, the Pa­tri­arch em­pha­sised Rose Choueiri’s “hu­man­i­tar­ian con­tri­bu­tions” in var­i­ous fields. Af­firm­ing that she de­serves this medal, Bishop Raï ex­plained that the one given to her is a “hu­man” medal, but “there is an­other spir­i­tual and di­vine medal” that the Lord had awarded to the late An­toine Choueiri to re­ward his “great do­ings.” “I greet Ms. Rose Choueiri and her fam­ily who are pur­su­ing the same path,” he said.

Car­di­nal Raï con­cluded by thank­ing Rose Choueiri for all her ac­tions to­wards men, so­ci­ety and the Church, as well as for her work with the Ma­ronite Foun­da­tion in the world.
