- BY NIRMALA JOSEPH

CHENNAI: Police in Chennai have extended high security to BJP leader and actors. ve. shekhera fter his sleazy comment about women sparked huge outrage.

Even as reports emerged that the state government is planning to arrest him, Shekher’s house in Pattinapakkam here has been put under guard.

Police have raised temporary barricades at the front and rear end of the stretch to limit the movement of public.

Also, police personnel are deployed outside his house to heighten safety.

On Friday, a few enraged journalists pelted stones and slippers against his property. shekher posted the derogatory comment after the media fraternity re acted with fury against Tamil Nadu Governor Banwarilal Purohit’s act of patting a woman journalist on her cheek without her consent. The governor offered an apology, but Shekher shared a Facebook post written by Thirumalai Sa., with a headline that read “Madurai University, the Governor and a virgin girl’s cheek.”

Without naming the offended woman journalist, the post read: “I feel pity while looking at that woman journalist. she claims she was disturbed because the governor touched her. But when you read her tweets, it is understood that her intention was to target the Governor and Modi.”

“It is actually the governor who has to wash his hands with Phenoyl after touching her. These (TN media persons) are cheap and disgusting creatures. Most people who work in the media in TN are usually Illiterate, cheap and don’t have any general knowledge. This woman is not any different.” The post also went on to accuse all women journalists in Tamil Nadu of sleeping around.

“Recently this disgusting fact has come out through complaints that women can not become reporters or anchors unless they sleep with top bosses. And with these faces, they come out to ask questions to the governor,” the post stated.

The post was deleted following the furore it sparked, but not before several members of the media fraternity took to Twitter to condemn the post and Shekher.

Dhanya Rajendran of the Newsminute tweeted: “According to a post shared by @SVESHEKHER, women journos can be touched without consent because they are anyway sexually abused at work. Like really? Will the @Bjp4india pls explain if this is their take too? #Wthsveshekhar “And I want to ask women members of the BJP @Vanathibjp and @Drtamilisaibjp why they think about such ilth that he shares. #Wthsveshekher.”
