Shar­jah floats trans­port ini­tia­tive


SHAR­JAH: Shar­jah Roads and Trans­port Au­thor­ity has launched the ‘Age-friendly Pub­lic Trans­port’ ini­tia­tive, which ex­empts the el­derly, chil­dren and peo­ple of de­ter­mi­na­tion from pub­lic trans­port fees, and has also is­sued a new tar­iff for taxis used for trans­port­ing peo­ple of de­ter­mi­na­tion.

The ini­tia­tive, is­sued in line with the Year of Zayed, cul­mi­nates the Au­thor­ity’s ef­forts to sup­port Shar­jah’s pro­gramme as first Arab age­friendly city in im­ple­men­ta­tion of the vi­sion of His High­ness Dr Sheikh Sul­tan Bin Mo­hammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Coun­cil Mem­ber and Ruler of Shar­jah, to­wards mak­ing the emi­rate an ideal age-friendly en­vi­ron­ment in which its in­hab­i­tants are pro­vided with the best ser­vices.

The Au­thor­ity is in the process of es­tab­lish­ing a mech­a­nism for is­su­ing per­mits for the said cat­e­gories, which will be an­nounced soon, said Yusuf Su­laiman Al Ham­madi, Head of Pro­cure­ment and Ad­min­is­tra­tive Ser­vices.

In order to ben­e­fit from the ex­emp­tion, the el­derly and chil­dren can present their iden­tity cards when book­ing tick­ets, while peo­ple of de­ter­mi­na­tion can present their own peo­ple of de­ter­mi­na­tion cards, he added.

To con­tinue to sup­port peo­ple of de­ter­mi­na­tion and pro­vide them with ser­vices eas­ily and smoothly, the Au­thor­ity in­tro­duced from last May a new tar­iff for the taxis used in trans­port­ing peo­ple of de­ter­mi­na­tion, he said.

SHAR­JAH: Al Qasba is gear­ing up to host the de­but edi­tion of Shar­jah’s irst art Fes­ti­val ‘Relection’. Aimed at of­fer­ing artists, sculp­tors, pho­tog­ra­phers and mu­si­cians a plat­form for ex­pres­sion, and the lo­cal com­mu­nity a place to come to ex­plore and en­joy the world of art, this pop­u­lar leisure and tourist des­ti­na­tion will be turn­ing into a hub of vi­brant ac­tiv­ity from De­cem­ber 20 to 31, 5pm -10pm every day.

Al Qasba man­age­ment has opened regis­tra­tions for es­tab­lished artists as well as as­pir­ing pro­fes­sion­als in the ields of pho­tog­ra­phy, paint­ing, sculp­ture, draw­ing, work on pa­per (pa­per art e.g. Origami and other), per­form­ing arts, in­stil­la­tions, sound art, videog­ra­phy, vis­ual arts, and oth­ers, to sub­mit their par­tic­i­pa­tion re­quests to: relection@ be­fore 27 Oc­to­ber, 2018.

“Aimed at be­ing an an­nual cul­tural fes­ti­val of mu­sic, art and learn­ing to cel­e­brate lat­est lo­cal and in­ter­na­tional trends in art, fash­ion and food, “Relection” will be the irst-of-its-kind cul­tural ex­trav­a­ganza in the emi­rate of Shar­jah. Build­ing on the emi­rate’s rep­u­ta­tion of be­ing the cul­tural cap­i­tal of the UAE and the re­gion, this art fest will see par­tic­i­pa­tion of pres­ti­gious gal­leries, lead­ing restau­rants and cafés, tal­ented artists, and gov­ern­ment en­ti­ties. Through this 12-day event, Al Qasba aims to fos­ter a com­mu­nity cul­ture where cre­ative peo­ple have an av­enue to ex­press them­selves, net­work and show­case their works to po­ten­tial buy­ers and the gen­eral pub­lic in a vi­brant and en­gag­ing en­vi­ron­ment,” said Khu­loud Salim Al Ju­naibi, Man­ager of Al Qasba.
