TV worker robs colleague’s Dhs5,000
DUBAI: A television interviews’ coordinator snatched Dhs5,000 from the handbag of a female workmate while on duty at a broadcasting centre, a jury heard on Tuesday.
The Arab defendant, 31, appeared before the Dubai Criminal Court’s jury charged with stealing the cash belonging to the Syrian woman, 49, at around 5pm on Aug.28, as per Al Barsha Police Station records.
He acknowledged the incident then argued, “I took the money but I meant to joke with the complainant. I had no motive to disappear with it.” His lawyer asked for time. The court adjourned the case till Nov.13.
On the record, the female TV channel worker complained that she walked out of her ofice with her wallet, withdrew Dhs10,000 from an ATM situated at the premises, returned and placed it in the bag.
She left the ofice again for work after which she returned, picked the bag and went home. There, she realised Dhs5, 000 was missing. Security oficers nabbed the defendant. He confessed to the theft.
However, he contended before the oficers that the money he stole was Dhs3,500 only. The victim confronted him over all the missing money. He confessed before police and prosecutors to have robbed it.
