TV worker robs col­league’s Dhs5,000

DUBAI: A tele­vi­sion in­ter­views’ co­or­di­na­tor snatched Dhs5,000 from the hand­bag of a fe­male work­mate while on duty at a broad­cast­ing cen­tre, a jury heard on Tues­day.

The Arab de­fen­dant, 31, ap­peared be­fore the Dubai Crim­i­nal Court’s jury charged with steal­ing the cash be­long­ing to the Syr­ian woman, 49, at around 5pm on Aug.28, as per Al Bar­sha Po­lice Sta­tion records.

He ac­knowl­edged the in­ci­dent then ar­gued, “I took the money but I meant to joke with the com­plainant. I had no mo­tive to dis­ap­pear with it.” His lawyer asked for time. The court ad­journed the case till Nov.13.

On the record, the fe­male TV chan­nel worker com­plained that she walked out of her ofice with her wal­let, with­drew Dhs10,000 from an ATM si­t­u­ated at the premises, re­turned and placed it in the bag.

She left the ofice again for work after which she re­turned, picked the bag and went home. There, she re­alised Dhs5, 000 was miss­ing. Se­cu­rity ofi­cers nabbed the de­fen­dant. He con­fessed to the theft.

How­ever, he con­tended be­fore the ofi­cers that the money he stole was Dhs3,500 only. The vic­tim con­fronted him over all the miss­ing money. He con­fessed be­fore po­lice and pros­e­cu­tors to have robbed it.
