IT GIVES me im­mense de­light to know that the irst lo­cally made and de­signed satel­lite Khal­i­fasat was launched in Ja­pan. It is truly a spec­tac­u­lar mile­stone in the his­tory of the coun­try and a tremen­dous break­through for the na­tional space in­dus­try.

I am not an Emi­rati, but I have lived in the UAE for more than a decade, and con­sider it my sec­ond home. I ind the UAE na­tion­als ex­tremely po­lite and warm, and I also strongly feel that they are very ta­lented.

Which ac­counts for the fact that the earth ob­ser­va­tion satel­lite was de­signed, tested and man­u­fac­tured by a team of Emi­rati engi­neers and sci­en­tists at the Space Tech­nol­ogy Lab­o­ra­to­ries of Mo­hammed Bin Rashid Space Cen­tre (MBRSC).

This is the third UAE satel­lite launched into space, after Dubaisat-1 and Dubaisat-2.

It is part of the na­tional strat­egy to stoke in­no­va­tion, tech­no­log­i­cal
