India expands tourist e-visa scheme
India has expanded its tourist e-visa programme to 37 more countries. The scheme was already in place for the citizens of 113 countries arriving at 16 Indian airports, including major source markets like the US, UK, China, Canada, Australia and Russia. This latest round of expansion takes the total number of countries and territories included in the e-visa programme to 150. But the new rules will offer e-visa services to 37 more countries in Europe, Africa and Asia, including South Africa, Switzerland, Austria, Brunei, Serbia, Denmark, Greece, Czech Republic, Romania, Bulgaria and Zimbabwe. A total of 445,300 e-tourist visas were issued at Indian airports last year.
