In­dia ex­pands tourist e-visa scheme

In­dia has ex­panded its tourist e-visa pro­gramme to 37 more coun­tries. The scheme was al­ready in place for the cit­i­zens of 113 coun­tries ar­riv­ing at 16 In­dian air­ports, in­clud­ing ma­jor source mar­kets like the US, UK, China, Canada, Aus­tralia and Rus­sia. This lat­est round of ex­pan­sion takes the to­tal num­ber of coun­tries and ter­ri­to­ries in­cluded in the e-visa pro­gramme to 150. But the new rules will of­fer e-visa ser­vices to 37 more coun­tries in Europe, Africa and Asia, in­clud­ing South Africa, Switzer­land, Aus­tria, Brunei, Ser­bia, Den­mark, Greece, Czech Re­pub­lic, Ro­ma­nia, Bul­garia and Zim­babwe. A to­tal of 445,300 e-tourist visas were is­sued at In­dian air­ports last year.
