Visitor held with drugs deported
A VISITOR CAUGHT at the airport with cannabis on Saturday was fined and then deported yesterday.
Guyanese Nicholas Charles Phillips, 23, admitted to possession, intent to supply, trafficking and importation in relation to 151 grammes of the drug with a value of $755. He appeared before Chief Magistrate Christopher Birch in the District “C” Magistrates’ Court.
Phillips arrived from Jamaica and having cleared immigration, went to customs where his luggage was searched. Customs officers discovered a black taped package containing cannabis concealed in a suitcase and informed police.
He was fined $500 forthwith for possession and reprimanded and discharged for intent to supply and trafficking. For importing, he was convicted, reprimanded and discharged.
After the fine was paid, Phillips was handed over to immigration officers for deportation. ( PR/AC)
