Vis­i­tor held with drugs de­ported

A VIS­I­TOR CAUGHT at the air­port with cannabis on Satur­day was fined and then de­ported yes­ter­day.

Guyanese Ni­cholas Charles Phillips, 23, ad­mit­ted to pos­ses­sion, in­tent to sup­ply, traf­fick­ing and im­por­ta­tion in re­la­tion to 151 grammes of the drug with a value of $755. He ap­peared be­fore Chief Mag­is­trate Christo­pher Birch in the District “C” Mag­is­trates’ Court.

Phillips ar­rived from Ja­maica and hav­ing cleared im­mi­gra­tion, went to cus­toms where his lug­gage was searched. Cus­toms of­fi­cers dis­cov­ered a black taped pack­age con­tain­ing cannabis con­cealed in a suit­case and in­formed po­lice.

He was fined $500 forth­with for pos­ses­sion and rep­ri­manded and dis­charged for in­tent to sup­ply and traf­fick­ing. For im­port­ing, he was con­victed, rep­ri­manded and dis­charged.

After the fine was paid, Phillips was handed over to im­mi­gra­tion of­fi­cers for de­por­ta­tion. ( PR/AC)
