KINGSTOWN – St Vincent and the Grenadines’ murder rate has reached a record high of 41 following a shooting on Christmas Eve night.

The victim Andel Muckett died on Christmas Day at the Milton Cato Memorial Hospital in Kingstown where he was being treated for gunshot injuries.

Reports were that Muckett was shot while making his way from his home in the Smiths Valley, Diamonds community. He was shot in the head and left leg and collapsed several yards away from where he had been shot. He was transported to the hospital where he later died.

The 2017 murder count is one more than the country’s previous homicide record which was set in 2016. (I Witness News/ News784)
