Mixed domino for­tunes for Ba­jans

Bar­ba­dos had mixed for­tunes at the World Coun­cil of Domi­noes Fed­er­a­tion’s Cham­pi­onship in Guyana.

On Tues­day, Bar­ba­dos held of a stiff chal­lenge from An­tigua to win their Four-hand match 70-66 after trail­ing by 15 points at one stage.

Sherry-ann Daw­son and Suzette Hinds got 14 points while Charles Proverbs and De­court­ney Est­wick also got 14 points.

Mark By­noe and Stan­ley Jones, who got an early baptism with a six-love the pre­vi­ous game, came in at a cru­cial stage and made a valu­able con­tri­bu­tion with nine points.

In Three-hand women’s ac­tion, Bar­ba­dos (72) lost by one point to the United States (74) and Guyana (73) but Keisha Brath­waite chalked up 16 points.

The Bar­ba­dian ladies also tied with An­guilla on 79 points each while USA got 62. Sophia Thorpe got 18 points and the in­form Brath­waite added 15.

Bar­ba­dos’ men also suf­fered two Three-hand losses.

In the first match, Guyana (75) pre­vailed over Bar­ba­dos (65) and USA (60). An­guilla (80) won the sec­ond game from USA (67) and Bar­ba­dos (65).

An­tigua (76) also de­feated St Lu­cia (72) and Guyana (69).

On open­ing night last Satur­day, Bar­ba­dos ham­mered Guyana in Four-hand 94-44. Char­maine Du­rant and Su­san Jean-bap­tiste slammed 18 points as well as Ralph Bai­ley and Michael Grif­fith.

Bar­ba­dos’ men’s and women’s teams were also vic­to­ri­ous in their Three-hand matches.

The women tri­umphed over Guyana and An­guilla, 83-73-70 re­spec­tively with Du­rant and Sharon Lynch both get­ting 17 points.

The men also won from Guyana and An­guilla 83-68-66 re­spec­tively. Bai­ley gained max­i­mum 18 points and Basil Clarke con­trib­uted 17.
