Grodno Azot’s shop to make fatty acid dimethyl ether out of rapeseed oil now operates at full capacity.

The ether is the basic constituent in diesel fuel manufacturing. After the shop, which includes divisions for refining oil, etherification and purification of glycerin, is upgraded, OAO Grodno Azot will be able to make up to 30,000 tonnes of the ether per annum. The product will be shipped to Belorusneft enterprises, which manufacture biofuel.

At present biofuel is only available to enterprises of the Belarusian Agriculture and Food Ministry for making agricultural work cheaper. The DT (B5) biodiesel fuel is made of 5% of dimethyl ether and 95% of mineral (oil) fuel. The Belarusian product meets domestic and European standards STB 1658-2006 and EN 590:2004.
