A new variety of buckwheat developed by the NASB Agriculture Research Center has been included into the Belarusian State Registry 2012.
The Lakneya average crop yield is 21 centners per hectare, the maximum one is 33 centners per hectare. The variety possesses a unique combination of high technological, grain and taste qualities. Lakneya will join such highyield varieties as Vlada, Marta, Anastasia and Sapfir.
In 2011 the areas under buckwheat in Belarus were increased by 16,300 hectares to 39,900 hectares. The gross yield reached 60,000 tonnes as against 25,200 tonnes in 2010. A total of 27,300 tonnes was delivered to local processing companies.
