Amount of transactions made with plastic cards almost doubles
In Q3 2012, the amount of transactions made with plastic cards in Belarus reached Br44.4 trillion, up 1.9 times as against the same period last year.
According to the National Bank, as of 1 October the number of banking cards in circulation made up 10.037 million, up by 238,300 over 2011.
In January-September, over 482.5 million transactions estimated at about Br114.6 trillion were made using banking cards in Belarus. Cashless transactions accounted for 61.9% of the total number of transactions made with cards, and 18.7% of all transactions. As for foreign currency transactions, their number over this period exceeded 2.45 million and was estimated at over $1.127 million. Cashless transactions accounted for 17.2% of the total number of transactions made with cards denominated in foreign currency, and 10.1% of the total number of transactions.
