With the growing numbers of films produced in the country, for the producer, film director, actors, and actress faces difficulties in the screening of the movie to public with the limited number of movie halls in the country.

The issue was raised during the 12th general meeting of the Bhutan Film Association last Monday.

President of Bhutan Film Association, Mr. Mila Tobgay said that each and every Dzong- khags, Thromdeys and Geogs does not have a movie theater. But still use the multipurpose hall (MPH) of the schools to screen the film, but received complaints from the parent saying that it hampered the studies of children. So films were not allowed to be screened on other days than Saturday in the School’s MPH. whereby, it had a problems for the film producers, film director and to all the technically workers.

So the main challenges for the film producer is the limited nos of movie halls in our country, the opportunity for the producer, said the President.

However to added to the problem, some theater has been closed. For instance, the existing Lugar theater which is in the heart of Thimphu City , which can accommodate around thousands of people and more over it’s located in the heart of the town, thereby we were able to make good profit. May be because of the licensing problem or with some other reason, it has been closed for almost one and half year, it creates more problems to us, he added.

President said, we have prepared a list of those help needed from the government. But among them was the construction of movie hall. Although it is very important to have movie theater in all the Dzongkhags but we must also look into the most important areas and give priorities.

Now the film production had increases drastically, this was mainly because of training provided to the film industry by Department of Information and Media ( DoIM) under MoIC . The Department had provided training to around 68 people to all the technical and to the non technical people since from year 2013.

Actor Tshering Phuntsho said, “I think I am having less idea about it since I had never been experienced but certainly existence of problems is there because to screen our movies we are not getting right time with limited number of Movie Theater in our country”.

Indirectly we are affecting because we are getting less offer from the producers, he added.
