Indian Ambassador visits Chukha Hydro Power Plant
The Indian Ambassador to Bhutan His Excellency Shri Gautam Bambawale visited the Chukha Hydro power Plant last Tuesday, a week after arriving in the country and presenting credentials to His Majesty the King. This is the first visit of the ambassador outside Thimphu which underlines the importance of hydropower cooperation between Bhutan and India. The Chukha Hydropower Plant is an abiding symbol of the cooperation and the partnership between the two countries.
The Chukha Hydro Power Plant was inaugurated on 21st of October 1998 by His Majesty the Fourth Druk Gyalpo and then President of India , Mr. R. Venkataraman .
According to the press release from the Embassy of India in Thimphu “CHP generates over 1800 million units of electricity annually and is a good example of mutually beneficial cooperation a between Bhutan and India.”
