New Zealand to sup­port Bhutan in agri­cul­ture

H.E. Mr. Mur­ray McCully, For­eign Min­is­ter of New Zealand made a courtesy call on Ly­onch­hen Tsh­er­ing Tob­gay at the Gya­ly­ong Tshogkhang last Mon­day . Ly­onch­hen said that royal govern­ment ac­corded high con­sid­er­a­tion to New Zealand’s as­sist- ance and sup­port to Bhutan de­spite the ab­sence of for­mal diplomatic ties be­tween the two coun­tries. Ly­onch­hen also ex­pressed ap­pre­ci­a­tion to the Govern­ment of New Zealand for the as­sis­tance re­ceived from the New Zealand in Hu­man Re­source devel­op­ment, for field­ing vol­un­teers in the past and their schol­ar­ship of­fers. He said that many Bhutanese has ben­e­fited a lot from New Zealand. In the past Bhutanese have stud­ied un­der the New Zealand schol­ar­ships in var­i­ous fields such as char­tered ac­coun­tancy, cus­toms ad­min­is­tra­tions, sheep hus­bandry, seed tech­nol­ogy, hor­ti­cul­ture, etc. Ly­onch­hen fur­ther thanked the Gov­ern- ment of New Zealand for the con­tri­bu­tion to the Bhutan Health Trust fund in 1999. While calling to the im­por­tance of ex­chang­ing the ex­per­tise, Mr. McCully sought the prospects of start­ing the eco­nomic co­op­er­a­tion and shar­ing the ex­per­tise of New Zealand specif­i­cally in the fields of tourism, hy­dropower and green en­ergy with Bhutan. He also said that New Zealand would pick up the pro­posal for schol­ar­ships es­pe­cially in the field of agri­cul­ture. His Ex­cel­lency is the first serv­ing Min­is­ter from New Zealand to visit Bhutan. Mr. McCully said that he is hon­oured to be in Bhutan
