The Ninth Annual Japan-Bhutan Consultation was held in Delhi on 15th August 2014. Director General Kinga Singye, Bilateral Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs led a 9-member delegation comprising of representatives from Foreign Ministry, GNHC, MoAF and MoWHS.

During the consultation the two governments reviewed and assessed the projects that are being implemented in Bhutan with Japan’s assistance. Over the years Japan’s assistance has diversified into many areas, but the main focus continues to be in agriculture and rural development. Given the importance attached by the royal government on enhancing the food production and productivity, the royal government proposed for Chiwog grant assistance for farm mechanization and services, where request has been made for 1450 power tillers within 11th FYP. Bhutan has also proposed for Improvement of ma- chinery and equipments for construction and maintenance of rural agriculture road.

In view of the importance of bridges in connecting peoples, Bhutan has proposed projects for reconstruction of bridges on Gelephu-Trongsa Highway. The Bhutanese side also reiterated the support of the Government of Japan for establishing charging stations across the country.

On technical cooperation, royal government has requested for assistance on integrated horticulture farming and rural development 2015-2020 and Capacity Development in Quality Construction and Maintenance of Bridges in the Country.
