Bhutan invited for the 18th SAARC Summit
His Excellency Mr. Mahendra Bahadur Pandey, Minister for Foreign Affairs, Government of Nepal called on the Acting Prime Minister Lyonpo Damcho Dorji at the Gyalyong Tshogkhang last Tuesday.
Mr. Pandey is in Bhutan to extend invitation as special envoy of the Prime Minister of Nepal for the 18th SAARC Summit and its preceding meetings, which are scheduled to be held from 22-27th November 2014 in Kathmandu, Nepal.
Lyonpo Damcho extended a warm welcome to the Foreign Minister and thanked him for visiting Bhutan to present the Letter of Invitation from Rt. Hon’ble Sushil Koirala, Prime Minister of Nepal. He also expressed his appreciation to Government of Nepal for hosting the summit in Kathmandu this year for the third time and conveyed that the Royal Government of Bhutan would extend full support to Nepal.
Lyonpo stated that given Nepal’s past experience in preparation of summits, the 18th SAARC summit, would no doubt be a successful one. Lyonpo expressed confidence that under the Chairmanship of Government of Nepal, SAARC would be able to witness tremendous transformation towards realizing the aims and objectives for which it was founded.
Nepal hosted the 3rd SAARC Summit in 1987 and 11th summit in 2002.
