Brazil to assist Bhutan in football
The Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay met with the Ambassador of the Federative Republic of Brazil to Bhutan, H.E. Mr. Carlos Duarte last Thursday at the Gyalyong Tshogkhang.
Lyonchhen said that he was very pleased to receive Ambassador Duarte and expressed his happiness on the state of relations between the two countries. He also conveyed RGoB’s felicitation on the re-election of President Dilma Rouseff for another term.
Ambassador Duarte said that he deeply appreciated Bhutan’s efforts in furthering the relations with Brazil. He informed Lyonchhen about Brazil’s growing interest in Gross National Happiness (GNH) and emphasized that GNH’s contribution has echoed quite significantly in his country.
With regard to the proposed Technical Cooperation Agreement between the two countries, Lyonchhen thanked Ambassador Duarte for his initiative and assured his interest and support to the agreement.
Meanwhile, Lyonchhen and Ambassador discussed avenues of possible collaboration such as people- to- people contact, culture, renewable energy, trade and commerce, and sports specifically football. Lyonchhen requested Brazil’s assistance in coaching and training Bhutan’s football team. The discussion also highlighted on fostering cooperation in agriculture, school- feeding, sustainable transport and production of alternate fuels like ethanol and biodiesel. Lyonchhen also enquired on the possibility of sugarcane farming for ethanol production in Bhutan.
Ambassador Duarte commended on Lyonchhen’s personal engagement and said that he was optimistic of noteworthy progress in these areas.
Lyonchhen reiterated his assurances in strengthening the bond and developing closer cooperation with Brazil in the future.
