India House Golf tournament ends
The India House Golf Tournament 2014 organized at the India House Golf Course in Thimphu over a period of five days from 12th to 16th November ended. The tournament commemorated the auspicious occasion of the Birth Anniversary of His Majesty the Fourth Druk Gyalpo. A record numbers of one hundred and fifty eight golfers partipated in the tourna- ment. Sixty seven golfers made it to the finals played on 15th and 16th November.
The prize distribution ceremony which was held on 17th November was graced by Her Royal Highness Ashi Chimi Yangzom Wangchuck and Lyonchhen Tshering Tobgay. Other dignitaries who attended the function included National Council Chairperson Dasho ( Dr) Sonam Kinga, Education Minister Lyonpo Mingbo Dukpa, Finance Minister Lyonpo Namgay Dorji, senior constitutional and government functionaries.
His Excellency Guatam Bambawale , the Indian Ambassador to Bhutan and the Patron of India House Golf Club addressed the august gathering and spoke of the importance of India House Golf Tournament in Bhutan’s golfing calendar. He expressed the hope that the tournament would be even more successful in the years to come.
Addressing the guests, Secretary of India House Golf Club and Counsellor Subrata Das appreciated the enthusiastic response from Bhutan’s golfing community and commended the golfers on their sporting spirit. He thanked the sponsors Druk PNB, Jaiprakash Associates, PHPA, MHPA, WAPCOS India Ltd., Hotel Taj Tashi, BHEL, HCC Ltd., Druk Air, NIIT and Gammon India for their contribution to the sport of golf in Bhutan by supporting the Tournament.
Lt. Col Khitu Dukpa of Royal Body Guards was the Champion (Net Winner) winning a cash prize of Nu. 2 lakhs and the gross category was won by Raju Biswa who received a prize money of Nu. 1 lakh. Lyonpo Dago Tshering was the senior most contestants; Karan Mehra was the winner in the junior category and ten year old Akhil Singh the youngest participant.
