18th SAARC sum­mit to be held in Kathmandu

The Eigh­teen sum­mit of the South Asian As­so­ci­a­tion for Re­gional Co­op­er­a­tion ( SAARC) will be held from 26th to 27th Novem­ber 2014 in the Nepalese cap­i­tal Kathmandu. The mem­ber coun­tries for SAARC coun­tries are Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, In­dia, Mal­dives, Nepal, Pak­istan and Sri Lanka.

Ly­onch­hen Tsh­er­ing Tob­gay will lead the Bhutanese del­e­ga­tion which will in­clude Ly­onpo Rinzin Dorji, For­eign Min­is­ter , Ly­ompo D.N. Dhungyel , Min­is­ter for In­for­ma­tion and Com­mu­ni­ca­tions, Yeshey Dorji For­eign Sec­re­tary and other se­nior of­fi­cials from the Min­istry of For­eign Af­fairs.

The Eigh­teen SAARC sub­mit will be pre­ceded by the Thirty – Sixth ses­sion of the SAARC coun­cil of Min­is­ters ( SMC) on 25th Novem­ber , the Forty – First Ses­sion of the SAARC stand­ing com­mit­tee ( SSC) on the 23-24 Novem­ber and the Forty – Ninth ses­sion of the pro­gram­ming Com­mit­tee ( PC) on the 22 Novem­ber 2014.

The nine ob­server’s coun­tries of Aus­tralia, the Peo­ple’s Repub­lic of China, the Is­lamic Repub­lic of Iran, Ja­pan, the Repub­lic of Korea, Mau­ri­tius, the Union of Myan­mar, the United States of Amer­ica, and the Euro­pean Union will be rep­re­sented.

The theme of the sum­mit will be “deeper in­te­gra­tion for peace and pros­per­ity.

The Eigh­teen SAARC sum­mit is ex­pected t o finalized three agree­ment s on SAARCC Mo­tor ve­hi­cles for Reg­u­la­tion of pas­sen­ger and cargo ve­hi­cle traf­fic, SAARC in­ter – gov­ern­men­tal Frame­work for En­ergy Co­op­er­a­tion and SAARC Re­gional Rail­ways.
