Prime Minister in Bangladesh
Lyonchhen Tshering Tobgay is on an official visit to Bangladesh from 6th to 8 December 2014 at the invitation of H.E. Sheikh Hasina, the Prime Minister of Bangladesh. Yesterday on arrival at the Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA) in Dhaka Lyonchhen was received by the Prime Minister of Bangladesh H.E. Sheikh Hasina . A Guard of Honor was granted to Lyonchen after that. Lyonchhen also visited the National Martyrs’ Memorial in Dhaka and paid respect to the martyrs who lost their lives during the liberation war.
According to the Bangladeshi media reposts red carpet was rolled out to welcome Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay on Saturday morning in Dhaka and the visits aims to give the relations between the two neighboring nations a stronger footing. Cooperation in the areas of electricity, connectivity, trade between the two countries, water resources management and culture are likely to be discussed at the meeting.
During the visit, Lyonchhen will pay a courtesy call on the President of Bangladesh, H.E. Mr. Md. Abdul Hamid. Yesterday evening the prime minister and the Bhutanese delegation called on the Prime Minister of Bangladesh and discussed wideranging issues on bilateral relations and
other issues of common interest. The delegation also called on H.E. Mr. Abul Hassan Mahmood Ali, MP, Hon’ble Foreign Minister of Bangladesh yesterday.
One important outcome of the visit will be the renewal for a further ten-year period of the Bilateral Trade Agreement between the two countries. The Agreement will provide greater impetus to the existing trade and commercial relations between Bhutan and Bangladesh.
This is Lyonchhen’s first visit to Bangladesh after assuming office in July 2013.The visit will further strengthen the close ties of friendship and cooperation between Bhutan and Bangladesh.
Lyonchhen is accompanied by Lyonpo Rinzin Dorji, Foreign Minister, Lyonpo Norbu Wangchuk, Minister for Economic Affairs and other senior officials of the government. A business delegation will also accompany Lyonchhen.
Meanwhile, the Bhutanese business delegation met with their Bangladeshi business leaders in Dhaka yesterday to explore business opportunities between the South Asian countries.
The Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) hosted the event, ‘Networking Business Meeting’, at its meeting room.
Lyonchhen Tshering Tobgay and the Bhutanese delegation called on to H.E. Sheikh Hasina, the Prime Minister of Bangladesh yesterday .The two Prime Ministers discussed on wide range of bilateral relations and other issues of common interest.
