Euro­pean In­vest­ment Bank to help Bhutan on hy­dro power and en­vi­ron­ment man­age­ment

Ly­onch­hen Tsh­er­ing Tob­gay was called on by Mr. Ro­man Es­colano, Vice Pres­i­dent of the Euro­pean In­vest­ment Bank (EIB) and his del­e­ga­tion at the Gya­ly­ong Tshogkhang Fri­day,

The del­e­ga­tion con­grat­u­lated Ly­onch­hen for the suc­cess­ful demo­cratic tran­si­tion and Bhutan’s de­vel­op­ments so far. Mr. Es­colano in­formed that the EIB is well pre­pared to en­gage in con­crete de­vel­op­ment as soon as pos­si­ble and fa­cil­i­tate long-term com­pet­i­tive fi­nanc­ing for Bhutan.

The vice pres­i­dent said that EIB is ea­ger to col­lab­o­rate with Bhutan and invest in projects such as hy­dropower, en­ergy ef­fi­ciency, and en­vi­ron­ment man­age­ment through ini­ti­at­ing re­for­esta­tion pro­grammes, wa­ter re­sources man­age­ment and waste treat­ment prac­tices. On this, the Prime Min­is­ter en­cour­aged the del­e­ga­tion to work closely with the Min­istry of Agri­cul­ture and Forests in Bhutan and to come up with vi­able projects, which could soon be im­ple­mented.
