Prime Min­ster in­au­gu­rates Riju – Bart­sam Geog Road

Ly­onch­hen Tsh­er­ing Tob­gay in­au­gu­rated the Ri­juBart­sam Geog Cen­ter Road Fri­day and said that it was a his­toric and aus­pi­cious day since the road which was built in 1974 is be­ing black­topped as we cel­e­brate the 60th Birth An­niver­sary of His Majesty the King the road. Ly­onch­hen said that the road, which was built 40 years ago, should last for another 40years after the black­top­ping.

Ly­onch­hen asked the peo­ple and the lo­cal gov­ern­ment gath­ered there to take own­er­ship of the road while it is be­ing con­structed by ex­tend­ing co- op­er­a­tion to the Depart­ment of Road ( DoR) of­fi­cials, mon­i­tor­ing the work progress and re­port­ing cor­rup­tion ( if any) to the gov­ern­ment. Ly­onch­hen said that the gov­ern­ment would pro­vide bud­get, the con- trac­tor must built qual­ity road and the DoR of­fi­cial must mon­i­tor the qual­ity of road as per the spec­i­fi­ca­tion of the ten­der doc­u­ments.

The Riju- Bart­sam road of 20.5 km is the first black­top­ping project in Trashigang and the first to be in­au­gu­rated in the east. The road will serve 29 vil­lages, about 433 house­holds with ap­prox­i­mate pop­u­la­tion of 3500. In the 11th Five Year Plan 1700 km of black­top­ping is to be car­ried out for 105 Geog Cen­ters.
