Golden jubilee celebration of Dechheling Lower Secondary School (DLSS)
Dechheling LSS completed its 50th years of unwavering service to Tsa Wa Sum on 17th December, 2014. To mark this historic occasion, the school, alumni and community felt of a need to initiate Golden Jubilee celebration with the following objectives: Pay our tribute and reaffirm our commitment to Tsa Wa Sum , to mark the 60th birth Anniversary of fourth Druk Gyalpo, recognize and acknowledge the devoted service of staff who has served till date and to connect and bring together all graduates of this school once again in the same school.
The preparation for this historic event began almost one year ahead. For the success and smooth coordination, a committee was formed at national and community level with appropriate job delegation. The day for celebration was finalized on 17th December, 2014 coinciding to 107th National Day. The nation level steering committee lead by chair person Choida Jamtsho, national assembly member from Nanglam constituency worked very hard in connecting with alumni spread over twenty Dzongkhags. Their main responsibility was to mobilize fund for celebration through contribution from alumni. Community level steering community and school had an equal responsibility in doing all the field preparation and arrangement for the event.
The community people and students are very much enthusiastic in marking this historic event. They have never hesitated to come forward to extend any help required for the celebration. The final stage of preparation was the busiest hour with all staffs and students having needed to sacrifice everything to complete preparation on time. As the memory of this historic event clock tower was constructed in the centre of academic block with the financial support from alumni contribution. The construction work was completed on time and consecration ceremony was conducted on 16th December, 2014.
On 17th December the day program started with reception of chief guest Dorji Norbu Director General of Department of Local governance at the school gate by school faculty and alumni. It then followed the unveiling of clock tower and second reception at the ceremonial ground. The Royal Bhutan police offered the guard of honour along with hoisting of national flag and singing national anthem by students. The marching offering, welcome note, releasing golden jubilee magazine, award program, chief guest address, singing Zhabten in honour of 4th Druk Gyalpo, march past, and cultural program followed one after another. The cultural program was so beautiful that it toughly entertained the gathering. The event was made more enjoyable and entertaining by hundreds of shop keepers turn out some coming as far from Thimphu and Paro. The chief guest and alumni hoisted lunch for the people gathered in celebration. The day program came to the end with all participating in Tashi Labey and together prayed for the long live of our king, unending peace and harmony in the country. The guest from Nganglam returned back after lunch.
Evening program continued at 6:00 PM with the stage show in the open ground by the students and alumni. Unexpectedly evening program was another entertaining event with most days crowed staying back till 11: 00 PM. Besides, evening program turnout to be the bonus for the shop keepers running the shop and stall in celebration.
On 18th December ar- chery match was played in between school team and alumni team. The match was so competitive that none of the team could finish the set. At the end school team was declared winner with higher point in the set.
The last event of the golden Jubilee celebration was the hoisting of dinner by Chief guest and alumni to the staff and senior students of school as the gesture for the hard work and trouble that they have overcome in making golden jubilee celebration a most successful and memorable event.
In general golden jubilee celebration has been the most successful event and it was possible because of support and assistance that was received from all stake holders.
