His Majesty graces the clos­ing cer­e­mony of Camp Raven

30 De­cem­ber 2014, Changlim­ithang: His Majesty The King graced the clos­ing cer­e­mony of Camp Raven, and granted an Au­di­ence to the 611 stu­dent par­tic­i­pants.

His Majesty shared sev­eral sto­ries of peo­ple whom His Majesty has met across the coun­try, to il­lus­trate that while stud­ies and school are im­por­tant, ex­cel­lence and suc­cess must be a life­long pur­suit.

Camp Raven be­gan this year on the 18th of De­cem­ber, and con­cluded on 30th De­cem­ber. The 611 par­tic­i­pants at­tended talks with re­source per­sons and vol­un­teers from di­verse fields, and learnt art, crafts, dance, pho­tog­ra­phy, mar­tial arts and film. They were also en­gaged in var­i­ous sports. Vol­un­teers from Thai­land and France, as well as from Bhutan, par­tic­i­pated as re­source per­sons and teach­ers.

Camp Raven was ini­ti­ated by His Majesty The King in 2012, to give chil­dren of armed force per­son­nel in Thimphu an op­por­tu­nity to spend their win­ter va­ca­tion pro­duc­tively. The Camp is held at RBA, RBP and RBG grounds, and co­or­di­nated by of­fi­cers of the re­spec­tive lo­ca­tions.

Be­sides Camp Raven, pe­ri­odic camps are held for scouts and other chil­dren across the coun­try, upon the Com­mand of His Majesty The King, such as the Win­ter Youth En­gage­ment Pro­gramme for girls, held in Gyalpoizhing, and Scout Lead­er­ship Train­ing Pro­grammes held at Ten­chol­ing.
