Per­ma­nent Rep­re­sen­ta­tive pre­sented cre­den­tials to Ex­ec­u­tive Di­rec­tor of UNEP

Per­ma­nent Rep­re­sen­ta­tive of Bhutan to the United Na­tions and other In­ter­na­tional Or­ga­ni­za­tions in Geneva, Daw Penjo pre­sented cre­den­tials to the Ex­ec­u­tive Di­rec­tor of the United Na­tions En­vi­ron­ment Pro­gramme ( UNEP) and Un­der Sec­re­tary- Gen­eral of the United Na­tions His Ex­cel­lency Mr. Achim Steiner on the 20th of Jan­uary 2015 at the In­ter­na­tional En­vi­ron­ment House in Geneva.

Dur­ing the cer­e­mony Mr. Steiner said Bhutan and UNEP en­joy a long stand­ing and ex­cel­lent re­la­tion­ship. He ex­pressed ap­pre­ci­a­tion to Bhutan for its ex­em­plary ef­forts in the con­ser­va­tion of en­vi­ron­ment.

Daw Penjo thanked the UNEP for the con­tin­ued sup­ports it pro­vides to Bhutan and ex­pressed the de­sire of the Royal Gov­ern­ment to fur­ther en­hance the co­op­er­a­tion ex­ist­ing be­tween Bhutan and UNEP.

Bhutan has been a re­cip­i­ent of the UNEP’s support since April 1999. UNEP’s head­quar­ter is in Nairobi, Kenya.

Daw Penjo is the first Per­ma­nent Rep­re­sen­ta­tive of Bhutan to present cre­den­tials to UNEP.
