Renowned chef couple Daniel Mattern and Roxana Jullapat will be arriving in the country for Bhutan International Food Festival, scheduled to take place at the Clock Tower Square in Thimphu from February 19- 22 this year.
Mattern was the executive chef and Jullapat the pastry chef of Cooks County, the famous Beverly Boulevard restaurant among the foodies, high- class and elites in Los Angeles that opened up three years ago. The couple had left Cooks County to pursue other projects in December last year. The star chef couple is renowned and frequently featured for their works and the contribution they have made to the L. A. food scene in food magazines and blogs globally.
In an article on September 1, 2012, Los Angeles Magazine describes them as ‘ The Friends of the Farm’ given their emphasis on the farmto- table ethos. The husband- and- wife team is known for reliably serving some of the best farmers’ market- driven cuisine in Los Angeles.
With their trip ex- penses sponsored by Le MERIDIEN Thimphu, the chef couple will mostly deal with the fusion aspects of Bhutanese foods during the food festival here in Thimphu. They will also do some background researches on Bhutanese foods and present their interpretation, by fusing or combining Bhutanese cuisine with elements of other different culinary traditions. The star chef couple will also conduct master class workshops for interested local chefs and cooks during the food festival.
Meanwhile, Bhutan International Food Festival is an event running as part of the first annual Bhutan International Festival ( BhIF) and organized by Hotel and Restaurant Association of Bhutan.
