The sale of local rice encouraged
As a part of agriculture commercialization and in accordance with agreement between Food Corporation of Bhutan Limited (FCBL) and Ministry of Agriculture and Forests (MoAF), the sale of locally produced rice was launched by the Minister for Agriculture and Forests Yeshey Dorji at the FCB complex in Changzamtog in Thimphu last Monday.
FCBL has collected more than 285 metric tons of paddies from Sarpang Dzongkhag , Punakha and Wandue Dzongkhags . . The sale of Local Maap, Local kaap and improved varieties of this rice is available only through FCBL outlets. There are seven pilot dzongkhags; Thimphu, Paro, wangdue, phuentsholing, s/jongkhar, Mongar and Trashi gang were marketing of these rice will be focused.
Furthermore, the mills are managed by FCBL supported by Department of Agriculture (DoA), MoAF with fund support from RNR EUSSP.
