Lyonchhen Tshering Tobgay was called on by H.E. Mr. Freddy Svane, Ambassador of Denmark to Bhutan last Friday at the Gyelyong Tshogkhang. The ambassador informed Lyonchhen about the 40th Anniversary Celebration of Bhutan – Denmark Friendship Association that took place couple of weeks ago and how well the celebration was received in Denmark. He said that it is important to have people to people bond. To this Lyonchhen said that he would do his part to continue the friendship between Bhutan and Denmark. While Bhutan is the recipient of the highest per capita amount from Denmark, at one point Denmark provided the second largest assistance (India being the first) to Bhutan. Lyonchhen said that he is deeply grateful to the government and people of Denmark for their support and friendship. Lyonchhen and the Ambassador both agreed that Denmark’s assistance in Bhutan has been a huge success. While the transition is being managed well, after the ‘transition period’ the two countries will continue to work together within the framework of partnership in wide range of developmental activities. Ambassador complemented Lyonchhen and said that Bhutan’s democracy is a ‘Role Model’ to some countries around the world. To this Lyonchhen said that Bhutan is fortunate to have good neighbor, good developmental partners and most importantly an enlightened monarch.
