Capacity building program on social media
The Department of Information & Media under the Ministry of Information and Communications in collaboration with the United Nations Asian and Pacific Training Centre for Information and Communication Technology for Development (UNAPCICT) organized a two day workshop on “Capacity Building Programme on Social Media for Development and Governance” last week.
Around 20 Information & Media Officers from various Ministries and Agencies attended the programme from 16 – 17 April 2015, at MoIC Conference.
With a combination of expert presentations, panel discussions, case presentations, group discussions, and roundtable session, the 2 days programme was organized with the key objectives of raising awareness of Information & Media Officers on the potential of social media for promoting socio-economic development; enhance understanding of the implications for national policy and programme formulation emerging from the role of social media in promoting development; introduce the various applications of social media in a developmental context; and build capacities of government officials on developing social media plans, social media management and monitoring & evaluation.
The programme is a part of Department’s ongoing efforts to increase awareness and build capacities of the information & Media Officers on the importance and use of social media for development and good governance.
