Coinciding with the birth anniversary of third Druk Gyalpo, Jigme Dorji Wangchuck, the father of modern Bhutan, the nation observed the National Teacher’s Day, to pay tribute to the teachers all over the schools in Bhutan yestrday. The day bears a special significance as teachers are the one who carry forward the spirit of modernization and national development.

In Thimphu all the schools celebrated the day and it was significantly important as Yangchenphu HSS celebrated its golden jubilee this year, the school was established by His Majesty the Third Druk Gyalpo in 1965. Speaking at the inauguration, the Third Gyalpo has prophesied the future success of the school “I think our new beloved school is going to be one of the jewels of the future of Bhutan or at least we should make it one of the real jewels of the Thimphu valley”.

In Mothithang HSS the day was celebrated with the awarding of certificates to their teachers by the student board as a token of appreciation. Lopen Karma Geley a 43 years old teacher, who served for 24 years, said that today is the day and it is a great opportunity to observe and celebrate national teacher’s day. He said that although he doesn’t have good reward as compare to other service but by profession being as a teacher, he can guide students, everyday every minute and enhance the knowledge.

“Being a teacher it’s not only to have a tribute from our student but it is very important to realize and work hard to make our student best since they are the future citizens of our country” , he added.

Another teacher Mr. Syed A Haque from the same school said that as a teacher he should think for whole world’s teacher not only for teachers of Bhutan, since the teachers are like the candle which is burning till the end of life. Because teacher’s life is dedicated to the student; he is not a teacher for school only but a teacher for 24 hours.

He added that the actions of a teacher is recognized even by the society every time, so one teacher do wrong things,

the blame comes to whole teacher, so being as a teacher he said that we should be very cautious about our action and the work.

As a role model, not only to the students, but also to the society, so we should think before doing any work, he added.

Mr. Prabu N another teacher said a teacher should be ready to work for students in their life so we want to dedicate our life for the students but student should understand about their life. He added that as today’s student are going into the social media, they are not aware of their life and also there is no proper guidance from the parents as the parent had to work, so they don’t really have time to give care for their children but as a teacher we know about the problems of their children in terms of studies. “We should study properly, as study will only help them in their life”, he added.

Deki Wangmo of XI Science “B” from Motithang Higher Secondary said that she thinks that teachers’ day is the best way to repay for their service and it is the day to honor their capabilities. She also added that it is the important day in the school calendar since we the students could really show our respect and our heartfelt gratitude for the teachers and could somehow repay them in our own small ways.

Another student Sonam Dorji of XI commerce of the same school that teacher’s day is the most important day for students and for teachers. “it is the memorable day for all the teachers as the students had a chance to express our heartfelt
