B hu­tan Me­dia Foun­da­tion was de­clared as Reg­is­tered CSO on 18th May, 2015,

As a reg­is­tered CSO, BMF gains the op­por­tu­nity to fundraise and seek sup­port from di­verse sources both within and out­side the coun­try. It fur­ther strength­ens BMF’s re­spon­si­bil­ity to func­tion as a civil so­ci­ety or­gan­i­sa­tion and caters in the public’s in­ter­est to strengthen the me­dia and help sus­tain De­moc- racy in Bhutan.

How­ever, BMF shall con­tinue to be guided by the vi­sion and as­pi­ra­tion of its founder, His Majesty Jigme Kh­e­sar Nam­gyel Wangchuck. BMF is for­tu­nate to have the bless­ing and guid­ance of His Majesty the King and also the ac­cep­tance of the civil so­ci­ety or­gan­i­sa­tion.

The reg­is­tra­tion should not be based only on the num­ber of years served but also on other cri­te­ria in­clud­ing the pur­pose of its ex­is­tence and value of ben­e­fit to the so­ci­ety and the coun­try as a whole.

The Bhutan Me­dia Foun­da­tion was es­tab­lished through a Royal Char­ter is­sued by His Majesty the King on 21st Fe­bru­ary, 2010, to foster the growth of a strong, re­spon­si­ble me­dia ca­pa­ble of play­ing an im­por­tant role in the so­cial, eco­nomic and po­lit­i­cal growth of the na­tion. It is man­dated to sup­port the whole­some devel­op­ment of mass me­dia so that it can carry out its roles and re­spon­si­bil­i­ties in the in­ter­est of the democ­racy.
