ICT cham­pi­ons rec­og­nized

To mark the telecom­mu­ni­ca­tion and In­for­ma­tion so­ci­ety Day, the Depart­ment of IT and Tele­com un­der the Min­istry of Com­mu­ni­ca­tions and In­for­ma­tion awarded prizes and cer­tifi­cates to the ICT cham­pi­ons last Fri­day.

So-called ICT Cham­pi­ons is rec­og­nized for their valu­able con­tri­bu­tion to so­ci­ety through in­no­va­tion in ICT and Telecom­mu­ni­ca­tion. Out of four en­tries the prizes were given to 2 in­no­va­tors.

Ad­dress­ing the prize award cer­e­mony, the Min­is­ter of In­for­ma­tion and Com­mu­ni­ca­tion, D.N Dhungyel said ‘We have abil­ity, ca­pac­ity and ca­pa­bil­ity if we in­tend to do it, ICT is ever evolv­ing’.

The win­ners Bhutan Telemedicine Group, ini­ti­ated by Dr. Pu­rushotam Bhan­dari. Child Spe­cial­ist at Cen­tral Re­fer­ral hos­pi­tal, which ba­si­cally started in 2010 with 10 mem­bers, has now 230 mem­bers and its mem­ber in­clude only doc­tors and health work­ers.

Dr. P Bhan­dari said, this fo­rum is mainly de­signed to dis­cuss is­sues and make it ac­ces­si­ble to spe­cial­ized health care ser­vices, es­pe­cially for the peo­ple of ru­ral, semi­ur­ban and re­mote area by us­ing ICT as a means of medium to trans­fer and share in­for­ma­tion.

The other win­ners in­clude au­to­matic repos­i­tory in­for­ma­tion s sys­tem for Com­mu­nity Health(ARISCH) de­signed and de­vel­oped by Mr. Phurba Wangdi and Mr. Su­jit Ku­mar Rai of South Tech Bhutan Pvt. Ltd.

The au­to­matic repos­i­tory in­for­ma­tion sys­tem for com­mu­nity health is a lo­cal web server based sys­tem and cur­rently the com­mu­nity health depart­ment un­der Jigme Dorji Wangchuk Na­tional Re­fer­ral Hos­pi­tal in Thim­phu uses these ser­vices.

The prize win­ner Phurba Wangdi said ‘This sys­tem is meant to store data of the clients who is ex­pected to be a mother and it stores their de­tail record be­fore and af­ter de­liv­ery of the baby and con­tin­ues to keep the data of the child till he at­tains the age of 6’. And so far dur­ing the last six months 1000 data has been stored.

As of now out of 11 ser­vices, com­mu­nity Health Depart­ment has in­cor­po­rated 6 in the Sys­tem and it proved to be of an im­mense help for health staffs, cur­rently they are work­ing on a 2nd ver­sion of the Sys­tem, so that it will fix the prob­lems of ear­lier ver­sion.

The Depart­ment of IT and Tele­com eval­u­a­tion team dis­qual­i­fied 2 nom­i­nees, GSM based home au­to­ma­tion sys­tem and Bud­get­ing Plus for not ful­fill­ing the re­quired cri­te­ria and wel­comes more in­no­va­tors in com­ing years, for the depart­ment will celebrate ICT cham­pi­ons an­nu­ally.
