Lyonpo Damcho Dorji takes over as the Foreign Minister from today
The newly appointed Foreign Ministry, Lyonpo Damcho Dorji will be joining the Ministry of Foreign Affairs from today.
The Minister will be received at the Gyalyong Tshokhang by the officers and staff of Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the morning. There will be Zhugdrel Phuensum Tshogpai Tendrel ( traditional welcome ceremony) after which the Minister will sign the joining order.
Lyonpo Damcho Dorji was born in Khailo, Gasa. He studied at Punakha High School and did his undergraduate at Sherubtse College in Trashigang . He did his LLB at Government Law College, Mumbai, India and LLM at Georgetown Law Centre, Georgetown University in the United States.
Between 1991 and 2007, Lyonpo served as the Deputy Registrar General at the High Court, Drangpon (Judge) In Gelephu, Mongar, Wangduephodrang and Punukha District courts. He also served as Director, Office of Legal Affairs and Attorney General of Bhutan between 2006 and 2007.
Lyonpo Damcho Dorji participated and was elected in the first parliamentary election in 2008 as a candidate of the people’s Democratic Party (PDP) representing Khatoe-Laya constituency. He was appointed as Minister for Home and Cultural Affairs after PDP won the second parliamentary election in 2013.
Lyonpo Damcho Dorji is a recipient of Druk Thuksey ( Heart Son) Award. He is married with four children. His favorite hobby is archery and gardening.
