Inflation rose by 4.74% during the year
The annual inflation rate for June 2015 rose by 4.74% as per the monthly consumer price index bulletin for the month released by the National statistical Bureau. . The period taken for consideration was from June 2014 to June 2015 .This was 0.29 percentage point lower than the previous month which was 5.03%. Prices for food have risen by 2.07% and non-food prices by 6.55%. The prices of domestic goods and services increased by 3.80% due to increase in food prices by 1.97% and non-food prices by 4.86%. The prices of imported goods increased by 5.65% because of the increase in food prices by 2.28% and non-food prices by 8.30%
According to the bul- letin in the month to month inflation for June over previous month of May was 0.33%. The prices of the food and nonfood increased by 0.31% and 0.34% respectively. Prices for domestic goods and services increased by 0.07% on an average over the previous month with corresponding increase in food and non-food prices by 0.11% and 0.04%. The prices for imported goods increased by 0.57% due to increase in food prices by 0.48% and non-food prices by 0.64%
The purchasing power of Ngultrum as measured by Consumer Price Index was 83 Ngultrum as of June 2015. This means, Ngultrum 100 in June 2015 is worth only Ngultrum 83 at December 2012 prices. The purchasing power of Ngultrum has decreased by 4.53 percent in the past 12 months (i.e. from June 2014 to June 2015) due to price rise in the economy.
As per the National Statistics Bureau the bulletin is compiled using December 2012 as the price reference period and tracks the price movements of 436 commodities and services in 20 districts and 2 major urban areas. The bulletin was released last month.
