Joint Parliamentary Delegation visits India
Ajoint Bhutanese Parliamentary delegation is visited India on the invitation of the Parliament of India. The Bhutanese delegation is led by Jigme Zangpo, the Speaker of the National Assembly. The delegation also comprises of Dasho (Dr.) Sonam Kinga, Chairperson of the National Council.
Besides meeting with Shrimati Sumitra Mahajan, Speaker of Lok Sabha and Shri Mohammad Hamid Ansari, Chairperson of the Rajya Sabha, the delegation called on H.E. Shri Narendra Modi, Hon Prime Minister of India.
Meeting with the Bhutanese delega- tion, Shrimati Sumitra Mahajan mentioned that India attaches a lot of importance to the ongoing visit and hopes to enhance parliamentary exchanges between the two countries. She said that relations with Bhutan figure among the highest priorities in India’s foreign policy.
Speaker Jigme Zangpo expressed his appre- ciation for the invitation and the excellent hospitality rendered by the Parliament of India. He underlined on the special relations enjoyed by Bhutan and India and expressed that Bhutan will continue to strengthen its relation with India.
Calling on the Prime Minister of India, Speaker Jigme Zangpo offered his condolences on the passing away of the former President of India, Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam. Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed that India will remain a committed partner in Bhutan’s development.
The delegation was on a five day visit to India beginning 9th August 2015.
