Joint Par­lia­men­tary Del­e­ga­tion vis­its In­dia

Ajoint Bhutanese Par­lia­men­tary del­e­ga­tion is vis­ited In­dia on the in­vi­ta­tion of the Par­lia­ment of In­dia. The Bhutanese del­e­ga­tion is led by Jigme Zangpo, the Speaker of the Na­tional Assem­bly. The del­e­ga­tion also com­prises of Dasho (Dr.) Sonam Kinga, Chair­per­son of the Na­tional Coun­cil.

Be­sides meet­ing with Shri­mati Su­mi­tra Ma­ha­jan, Speaker of Lok Sabha and Shri Mo­ham­mad Hamid An­sari, Chair­per­son of the Ra­jya Sabha, the del­e­ga­tion called on H.E. Shri Naren­dra Modi, Hon Prime Min­is­ter of In­dia.

Meet­ing with the Bhutanese del­ega- tion, Shri­mati Su­mi­tra Ma­ha­jan men­tioned that In­dia at­taches a lot of im­por­tance to the on­go­ing visit and hopes to en­hance par­lia­men­tary ex­changes be­tween the two coun­tries. She said that re­la­tions with Bhutan fig­ure among the high­est pri­or­i­ties in In­dia’s for­eign pol­icy.

Speaker Jigme Zangpo ex­pressed his ap­pre- cia­tion for the in­vi­ta­tion and the ex­cel­lent hos­pi­tal­ity ren­dered by the Par­lia­ment of In­dia. He un­der­lined on the spe­cial re­la­tions en­joyed by Bhutan and In­dia and ex­pressed that Bhutan will con­tinue to strengthen its re­la­tion with In­dia.

Call­ing on the Prime Min­is­ter of In­dia, Speaker Jigme Zangpo of­fered his con­do­lences on the pass­ing away of the for­mer Pres­i­dent of In­dia, Dr. A.P.J. Ab­dul Kalam. Prime Min­is­ter Naren­dra Modi ex­pressed that In­dia will re­main a com­mit­ted part­ner in Bhutan’s de­vel­op­ment.

The del­e­ga­tion was on a five day visit to In­dia be­gin­ning 9th Au­gust 2015.
