11th Plan Progress: The Prime Minister visited the gewogs of Barshong, Mendrelgang and Patshaling in Tsirang yesterday. Lyonchhen took the opportunity to interact and hear from the community.
Lyonchhen Tshering Tobgay, who is on a 4-day visit to Tsirang Dzongkhag, met with the people of Damphu town, Kilkhorthang and Tsholingkhar gewogs last Friday.
Meeting residents of Damphu town and the two gewogs, Lyonchhen said that he would be visiting all gewogs in the country to interact and hear from the people in the next few days.
Lyonchhen added that he would inspect ongoing developmental activities, address issues and challenges as the government carries out mid-term review (MTR) of the 11th Five Year Plan.
Addressing two separate gatherings at Damphu High School and Tshokhorling Gewog Center, Lyonchhen conveyed same messages to the public: prioritize healthcare, sanitation, maintain and ensure access to clean drinking water supply.
To reduce dependency on firewood, Lyonchhen urged the people to utilize electric appliances, for which the government provides 100 units of electricity cost-free to rural households.
To the teachers and parents, Lyonchhen iterated that they must commit to teaching their students and children well and provide the right moral support. The parents must encourage their children to excel in their studies and they must also support the teachers, Lyonchhen highlighted.
Lyonchhen further urged the people to engage in commercial agriculture since farmers have gained access to farm roads and markets to sell their produce. He encouraged the farmers to make proper use of facilities provided such as power tillers, electric fences and farmers’ outreach banking services. The Prime Minister said that the government is looking to open farm shops in the villages which would allow farmers to sell their produce at such outlets.
Meanwhile, Lyonchhen also responded to questions from the public.
