11th Plan Progress: The Prime Min­is­ter vis­ited the gewogs of Barshong, Men­drel­gang and Pat­shal­ing in Tsir­ang yesterday. Ly­onch­hen took the op­por­tu­nity to in­ter­act and hear from the com­mu­nity.

Ly­onch­hen Tsh­er­ing Tob­gay, who is on a 4-day visit to Tsir­ang Dzongkhag, met with the peo­ple of Dam­phu town, Kilkhorthang and Tshol­ingkhar gewogs last Fri­day.

Meet­ing res­i­dents of Dam­phu town and the two gewogs, Ly­onch­hen said that he would be vis­it­ing all gewogs in the coun­try to in­ter­act and hear from the peo­ple in the next few days.

Ly­onch­hen added that he would in­spect on­go­ing de­vel­op­men­tal ac­tiv­i­ties, ad­dress is­sues and chal­lenges as the gov­ern­ment car­ries out mid-term re­view (MTR) of the 11th Five Year Plan.

Ad­dress­ing two sep­a­rate gath­er­ings at Dam­phu High School and Tshokhor­ling Ge­wog Cen­ter, Ly­onch­hen con­veyed same mes­sages to the public: pri­or­i­tize healthcare, san­i­ta­tion, main­tain and en­sure ac­cess to clean drink­ing wa­ter sup­ply.

To re­duce de­pen­dency on fire­wood, Ly­onch­hen urged the peo­ple to uti­lize elec­tric ap­pli­ances, for which the gov­ern­ment pro­vides 100 units of elec­tric­ity cost-free to ru­ral house­holds.

To the teach­ers and par­ents, Ly­onch­hen it­er­ated that they must com­mit to teach­ing their stu­dents and chil­dren well and pro­vide the right moral sup­port. The par­ents must en­cour­age their chil­dren to ex­cel in their stud­ies and they must also sup­port the teach­ers, Ly­onch­hen high­lighted.

Ly­onch­hen fur­ther urged the peo­ple to en­gage in com­mer­cial agri­cul­ture since farm­ers have gained ac­cess to farm roads and mar­kets to sell their pro­duce. He en­cour­aged the farm­ers to make proper use of fa­cil­i­ties pro­vided such as power tillers, elec­tric fences and farm­ers’ out­reach bank­ing ser­vices. The Prime Min­is­ter said that the gov­ern­ment is look­ing to open farm shops in the vil­lages which would al­low farm­ers to sell their pro­duce at such out­lets.

Mean­while, Ly­onch­hen also re­sponded to ques­tions from the public.

The Prime Min­is­ter is ac­com­pa­nied by Ly­onpo Ngeema San­gay Chempo, Min­is­ter for Labour and Hu­man Re­sources and spouse Aum Tashi Doma.

Yesterday Ly­onch­hen vis­ited and met with the staff and stu­dents of Men­dregang Cen­tral School and also vis­ited Barshong Ge­wog where the public said no min­is­ters vis­ited their Ge­wog be­fore.
