Dzongkhag Elec­toral Of­fi­cers re­viewed the Lo­cal govt. elec­tions

The Elec­tion Com­mis­sion of Bhutan con­ducted a two day meet­ing with the Dzongkhag Elec­toral Of­fi­cers from last Mon­day.

The meet­ing was chaired by the Chief Elec­tion Com­mis­sioner and at­tended by the Com­mis­sion­ers, Sec­re­tary and of­fi­cials from the com­mis­sion and the 20 Dzongkhag Elec­tion Of­fices.

The pri­mary pur­pose of the meet­ing was to re­view to­gether the var­i­ous pro­grammes be­ing un­der­taken to­wards the con­duct of the Lo­cal Gov­ern­ment Elec­tions 2016.

The meet­ing re­viewed the Work Plan 20152016 of the com­mis­sion , which will be the ba­sis for Depart­ment/Di­vi­sion, Dzongkhags and in­di­vid­ual Work Plans, the pro­gramme for the ob­ser­va­tion of the Na­tional Voter’s Day in the 20 Dzongkhags, the Strat­egy for the Lo­cal Gov­ern­ment Elec­tions 2016 and the Voter Ed­u­ca­tion and Aware­ness Pro­gr­mme in the Dzongkhags for the LG Elec­tions 2016.

The meet­ing also dis­cussed on the Elec­toral Roll and is­suance of VPIC for the Dzongkhag Thromde Tshogde Tshogpa Demkhongs, stream­lin­ing the Req­ui­si­tion for Elec­tion Ma­te­ri­als, Hu­man Re­source re­lated Is­sues and step­ping up of the Bio­met­ric Voter Reg­is­tra­tion in the Dzongkhag Thromdes.

The meet­ing specif­i­cally, con­sid­ered a long term strat­egy as well as im­me­di­ate pri­or­i­ties, re­lated to Mon­i­tor­ing and Eval­u­a­tion of ECB ac­tiv­i­ties and the up-com­ing con­duct of Bhutan Chil­dren’s Par­lia­ment. The DZEOs were also briefed on the changes in the var­i­ous Rules and Reg­u­la­tions ef­fected ear­lier in June 2015 by the Elec­tion Com­mis­sion.

The Dzongkhag of­fi­cials vis­ited the con­struc­tion site of the Democ­racy House af­ter the meet­ing.
